Making alterations to your website, especially something as fundamental as its URL structure, is never a straightforward task. When the need arises to modify your WordPress website's domain name or permalink composition, Velvet Blues emerges as an instrumental tool. Here's an uncomplicated guide to navigating through the Velvet Blues tool to efficiently manage URL updates
1- Begin by signing into your WordPress administrative dashboard.2- Navigate to the "Plugins" section and select “Add New.”3- Utilize the search function by typing “Velvet Blues Update URLs.”4- Upon locating the Velvet Blues Update URLs plugin, click “Install Now.”5- Post-installation, choose the "Activate" option to get the plugin up and running.
Within the admin dashboard of WordPress, select “Tools” and then “Velvet Blues Update URLs.”
1- Once you're on the "Velvet Blues Update URLs" configuration page, notice the two text fields, "Old URL" and "New URL." 2- Input the URL you wish to modify in the “Old URL” space. 3- Provide the replacement URL in the “New URL” space. 4- For more broad-based changes, the “Old URL” space can be left empty, signaling a change for every instance of a specific domain or pathway. 5- Adjust where you want the URLs to reflect the change through the “Replace in” section. Although the default changes include posts, pages, excerpts, custom fields, and meta values, you're free to tailor these selections to your needs.
1- Post-configuration, the “Update URLs Now” option becomes your next click. 2- The plugin delves into your WordPress database, swapping the old URL with your newly provided one, depending on your stipulated settings. 3- The duration of this exercise hinges on your site's volume and the number of URLs earmarked for modification. A success notification confirms the conclusion of the update.
It's paramount to have a backup of both your WordPress site and its database prior to diving into URL alterations. This precautionary measure safeguards against potential mishaps, granting you the ability to restore the original settings if complications arise. Post-update, spend some time reviewing your site. Ensure the URLs mirror your recent modifications, and be on the lookout for dysfunctional links or other URL-related anomalies.
Leveraging tools like Velvet Blues simplifies seemingly intricate tasks. However, always prioritize caution by regularly backing up your data and meticulously inspecting post-modification outcomes. This ensures not just a successful transition, but also a smoother user experience.
